General Information
Norwalk first came in to existence, when in 1852, Samuel
Snyder built a log cabin. The settlement began to grow and was platted in 1856
by George M. Swan, who became community's second postmaster. Norwalk was
incorporated in 1900 and Adam Stiffler was its first mayor. At that time, the
town was one square mile in size. The first railroad into Norwalk was
constructed in 1882. It was a narrow gauge line from Des Moines to Cainsville,
Missouri.

Norwalk is a city, situated in Polk and Warren counties in
the U.S. state of Iowa. It is located at 41°29′0″N, 93°40′43″W (41.483403,
-93.678515) at 945 feet above the sea level. According to the United States
Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.8 square miles (17.6 km²). As of
the census of 2000, there were 6,884 people, 2,344 households, and 1,903
families residing in the city. The population density was 1,049.2 people per
square mile (405.2/km²).
